“Make this GIF smaller” can mean two things, and the tool does both:

Quick recipes
For a chat message
Balanced at 100% size. If the app still complains, switch to Target size and pick the app’s limit.
For an email
Size 75% (or match your template width, usually 600 px), Balanced, and aim for about 1 MB so it loads on mobile data.
For a website or blog
Scale to the width it is displayed at — anything wider is wasted bytes — then Strong. For long clips, consider a video file instead.
For an emoji or sticker

How do I make a GIF smaller in size but keep the dimensions?
Keep Size at 100% under Colors, lossy, size & frames and use Balanced or Strong. Lossy compression and fewer colors reduce the file size without changing the width and height.
How do I make a GIF physically smaller (fewer pixels)?
Set Size to 75% or 50%. Width and height shrink together, so the proportions stay the same, and the file gets much smaller — at 50% each frame has only a quarter of the pixels.
Will making a GIF smaller ruin the quality?
Not at the Balanced level — the changes are too small to notice in normal viewing. Strong and Maximum add visible grain, and 50% size makes the picture smaller on screen. Compare original and result side by side before you download.
